Corporate Volunteers Program

Kindergarten through 2nd grade students who are not grade level proficient in reading are recommended by their teachers for this program.  Volunteers work with the student through a set of well-defined activities designed to raise the student's cognitive and literacy skills.  Students served attend an Equity+ elementary school. 

The Corporate Volunteers Program began in 1999.  Students served have advanced their cognitive and literacy skills by an average of 19 months each year since then. Some of the students begin school significantly behind and with the the skills of a child as young as 2.  Our goal is to have all students served reading proficient by the end of 3rd grade.

Commitment

  • One hour weekly during school hours (8:00 am and 2:00 pm) and may be over a lunch break.
  • Maintain your relationship with the student for one school year.

Requirements

  • A caring heart, a willingness to listen and to treat young people with respect
  • A dedication to meeting with your student every week.
  • Complete WS/FCS Volunteer Services Application & screening process.
  • Complete program training.
