We will match Caring Adults with high school students through three existing, successful programs.
We need community volunteers to be Caring Adults to 9th and 12th graders. Caring Adults will meet with their student at the student's school, one hour each week between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., for one school year, beginning in early November. Will you make a difference in the life of one student?
Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce manage these programs and will provide you with training and ongoing support. Follow these steps:
- Decide if you'd like to work with a 9th or 12th grader. If you would prefer to work with younger students please look at the Big Brothers Big Sisters-Younger Students or Corporate Volunteers Program for more information. If you are still not sure, please contact us and we'll be in touch.
PLEASE NOTE: Retired Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) employees must wait six months after retirement to volunteer in the schools.
- When you select a program and click Register, you will go to the WS/FCS online VOLUNTEER SERVICES APPLICATION. For the safety of our students, all Caring Adults must complete this form to register and to allow the school system to complete a background and criminal check. These checks can take up to 45 days to complete.
- A representative from your selected program will be in touch with you once you complete the online Volunteer Services Application. Each of the programs will also have information they would like you to complete, as well as training to prepare you to work with your student.
