Senior Academy

The Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce Senior Academy matches volunteer Caring Adult mentors with 12th grade students in jeopardy of not graduating.  Each mentor builds a one-on-one relationship with a student and helps the student to develop a plan for academic and career success, provides support and encouragment, and helps the student connect with other resources that can assist them.

In the first three years of the program, we matched 166 seniors with mentors and 9 out of 10 of the students graduated in four or five years.  With your involvement, we can reach even more students.

Commitment

  • One hour weekly at the student's school and a mutually convenient time between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.
  • Maintain relationship with the student for one school year.
  • Training during the first two weeks of October and matches beginning the week of October 17th.

Requirements

  • A caring heart, a willingness to listen and to treat young people with respect
  • A dedication to being there every week
  • Complete WS/FCS Volunteer Service Application & screening
  • Complete the Senior Academy Training
